Numbers of Members and registered Horses
In early 2009 the Baden-Wurttemberg registry comprised approx. 6,000 members. Besides warmbloods (aprox. 4,000 registered mares) draft horses (approx. 800 mares) and here especially the Black Forest horses (approx. 700 mares) play a major role. The success of the small riding horses and ponies that are bred in Baden-Wurttemberg is widely known throughout Germany and the neighboring countries. In total the breed registry recorded 5,740 mares in 2008, 3,000 of which were bred. 80% of the breeding was done by artificial insemination (cooled and frozen semen). 1,740 foals were born in 2008, most of them were presented at breed shows, which were organized by the registry.
